Legislative Changes to Essential Safety Measures

A Fire Door is one of the primary component measures of structural fire protection implemented to contain a fire in the fire compartment, thus limiting the spread of fire and smoke for a period of 1, 2 and 4 hour rating as determined by the BCA. This is achieved by using the appropriate fire structures and components appropriate to each situation using materials that meet Australian Standards for fire resistance.

Changes to building regulations in June 2005 have introduced more stringent fire safety precautions for shared accommodation buildings in Victoria. The improved safety regulations are aimed at reducing the occurrence and severity of fire related injuries. The Building Regulations 2006 introduced further exemptions to the requirements."
